Abstract

1,269,244. Laminates. UNITED PLASTICS Ltd. 30 Sept., 1969 [30 Sept., 1968], No. 47920/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Division E1] A composite panel comprises a core sandwiched between cladding sheets, which may be of asbestos cement or plywood, the core being in three separate superposed sections, the intermediate section being of or including a layer of sound-insulating material and the two outer sections being secured to the intermediate section and being of cellular form (especially cardboard honeycomb) with each cell extending across the entire thickness of its section, the cells being partially filled with foamed plastics material. The intermediate section may comprise a flexible felt or glass fibre material, a rigid sheet or a pair of rigid sheets of asbestos cement spaced apart by air or by expanded vermiculite. A self-extinguishing polyurethane foam may be used to partially fill the cells of the outer core sections and the cavity left in each cell may remain unfilled or may be filled with expanded vermiculite. The foam may be used as an adhesive to secure the parts of the panel. The panel may be provided with a timber frame.
