Abstract

1,269,153. Wheelbarrows. E. K. WILLIAMS. 8 May, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 26317/69. Heading B7B. In a load-carrying device a load pan which is pivotally connected to a handle frame 3, is tipped when a toggle 10 is released from engagement with the pan and a cable 15 releases a brake 17 biased into engagement with a wheel 2. The toggle 10 is biased about pivot 11 by a weak spring to hold the catch 9 over ledge 7 of the pan 1. In use the catch 9 may be released by a lever 14 or by a foot pedal (not shown) and the brake 17 is applied to wheel 2 by means of a strong spring 19, the toggle 10 rotates clockwise and the pan tilts upwards. The cable 15 slackens, thus allowing the weak spring to reset the toggle 10. The pan causes disengaging of the brake 17 by tightening the brako cable 15 as it falls back on to the handle frame.
