Abstract
1,268,580. Bis(organotin) sulphides. M & T CHEMICALS Inc. 29 Dec., 1970 [29 Dec., 1969], No. 61662/70. Heading C2J. [Also in Division C3] Compounds of general formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrocarbyl groups (many being specified) are prepared by reacting a compound RSn(X)(SCH 2 COOR<SP>1</SP>) 2 where X is Cl, Br or I with equal moieties of NaOH and NaSH, the organotin reactant being obtained by reaction of RSn(OH) 2 X and HSCH 2 COOR<SP>1</SP>. The reaction may be effected at room temperature in a mixture of an inert organic solvent and water. In Example 1, is prepared. The compounds, optionally mixed with compounds of general formula R 2 Sn(SR<SP>1</SP>) 2 where R is hydrocarbyl and R<SP>1</SP> = R<SP>2</SP> or is a carboxylate residue, or R 2 Sn(SR<SP>1</SP>COOR<SP>11</SP>) 2 where R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are hydrocarbyl, are used as stabilizers for homopolymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride.
