Abstract

1,268,207. Shelling shrimps. MACHINEFABRIEK B & S BEDRIJVEN V.D. WOERDT N.V. 12 March, 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 13008/69. Heading A2U. In a process of shelling cooked shrimps the body portion of a shrimp is gripped, the tail portion is stretched, the head is cut off, a cut is made between the shell of the body and that of the tail, the flesh is partly ejected from the shell of the body portion by a blunt pin inserted in the end of the cut off head, the flesh is squeezed out of the tail shell, the tail shell is removed and the flesh is forced completely out of the body shell. In the apparatus shown a shrimp is positioned correctly on belt 14 by means 16, stopped by member (22 not shown) and moved by means 21 transversely across the belt 14 to between the fixed upper and lower portions 28, 27 of the gripper. The portions have teeth 80 and grip the shrimp's body portion. The lateral parts 29, 30 of the gripper are moved downwards and horizontally respectively to enclose the body portion. The head is cut off by a blade (41 not shown) on part 30. The tail is stretched by pin 32 and plate 37 and placed on surface 48. A cut is made between the body and tail shell portions by blades 82, 83 on the gripper parts 29, 30. The peritoneum is cut by blade 91. The blunt pin 42 is moved to partly eject the flesh from the body portion. Needle 81 is penetrated into the flesh of the body portion to keep it fixed until the tail shell is removed. The flesh is pressed from the tail shell by a sector 52 rolling on the shell. A stripper 63 is inserted into the cut between the body and tail shell portions and then moved longitudinally of the shrimp away from the gripper to strip the tail shell from the shrimp. The flesh is then ejected completely from the body shell by pin 42. The apparatus comprises means for cleaning the sector 52, surface 48, teeth 80 and teeth (84 not shown) on gripper part 30. The apparatus may comprise more than one shelling unit placed side by side.
