Abstract
1,268,087. Feeding sheets. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 21 Aug., 1969 [23 Aug., 1968], No. 41691/69. Heading B8R. When a sheet previously separated from a pile stacked on edge in a magazine 67, Fig. 1, passes beyond the path of light from a lamp 28, Fig. 2, to a photo-cell 42, Fig. 3, a valve 2 connects a source of suction to a cavity 7 containing freely rotatable rollers 10, 11, 12, whereupon the next sheet 68 is drawn against a perforated belt 31 running in contact with the rollers and is separated from the pile and fed by the belt. When the sheet reaches the light path, the valve connects the cavity 7 to atmosphere, while the sheet is forwarded frictionally by the belt co-operating with a roller 49. Separation is assisted by air directed downwardly from openings 26 on to the upper edges of the front sheets. Sheets other than the end sheet are prevented from being separated with the end sheet by air from pressure chambers 59 blown through channels 60 and thence in a direction opposite to feed direction between the belt and the magazine. Any sheets which nevertheless do stick to the end sheet are thereafter pressed against a wall 43 by suction applied from a chamber 52 to cavities 50 in the wall and by air from a pressure chamber 21 blown through openings 20, so as to prevent further passage of such sheets.
