Abstract
1,266,924. Degassing fluent solid. FR. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 31 July, 1969 [22 Aug., 1968], No. 38371/69. Heading B1M. [Also in Division B8] Contamination with air is prevented during packaging of fluid solid pourable materials by causing a column of protective gas to be formed between mandrel 22, Fig. 1 and 2, and pipe 41 to prevent air reaching the material as it passes down pipe 32 into packaging material tube 36 prior to formation into bags 38. The column of protective gas is formed by gas from conduit 25 passing down tube 41 and out through apertures 42. The atmospheric content of the material is removed as it pours through hopper 1 into plate dispensing apparatus 30 by countercurrent flow with protective gas from nozzles 4. The apparatus may be completely flushed with protective gas from 25, e.g. prior to operation. Gas analysers 43 may be used to control via regulators 44 the flow of gas. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the volume of available protective gas is increased by a reservoir comprising a plurality of channels (50) to the mandrel 22. Atmospheric oxygen may have been removed from the solid material prior to packaging by the process disclosed in Specification 1,153,696.
