Abstract

1,266,742. Earth-working apparatus. HYDREL A.G. 7 July, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 34167/69. Heading E1F. Earth-working apparatus, particularly for the construction of galleries, comprises a shaft 21 supporting a shovel 23 or a cutting head or boring tool and axially and rotatably movably mounted in a jib 10 suspended by universal joint means. Shaft 21 can be moved longitudinally inside square cross-section tube 20 by hydraulic ram 24 while tube 20 can be rotated in bearings 19, by an electric motor through gear 29. Shovel 23 is pivoted by ram 28. Jib 10 is mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis in the arms of a fork 8 mounted for pivotal movement about a vertical axis in bearing 7. Rams 13, 16 swing the jib. The apparatus is anchored in the gallery by tips 32 on the end of pistons rods inside columns 3, 4 and by bolts 33. A cutting tube 50 is also driven in. In a modification jib 10 is suspended from a lug secured to the lining of the gallery and swung directly by rams also secured to the lining, or by chains connected to rams.
