Abstract
1,265,461. Measuring angular displacement electrically. BENDIX CORP. Jan. 1, 1970 [Jan. 10, 1969], No. 22/70. Heading G1N. An angular displacement sensor comprises a differential transformer 11-17, of which the core is E-shaped, having an armature 34 rotatable over a predetermined arcuate path, which armature is symmetrical about only one axis, that passing through the armature axis 24 and bisecting the armature longitudinally. A first end of the armature includes a slot 31 and is less massive than the second end so that with the primary leg 11 of the transformer core disposed vertically the slot will be disposed symmetrically about the primary leg, and surfaces 32, 33 of the armature will be parallel with secondary legs 12, 13 respectively. The magnetic coupling between the armature and the primary leg is said to be substantially constant for armature movement. In use the armature is rotatable between limits at which the surfaces 32, 33 strike the secondary legs to produce a corresponding charge of magnitude and phase of output voltage at terminals 21, 22.
