In the construction of a roof or canopy, a number of arched steel sheets are juxtaposed and the continuous structure S so formed covered with a high resistance adhesive e.g. epoxy resin, a covering V of concrete then being applied by e.g. spraying, to the adhesive in the unhardened state. The sheets may be assembled on temporary supporting arch centres C which are provided at the overlap of the sheets, a layer of adhesive 19 being provided between the sheet edges which are held together initially by means of magnets 20, 21. Alternatively the sheets may rest on the centres at their middle parts (Fig. 9 not shown). The concrete covering may be effected in successive layers.
