Abstract
1,264,262. Separating hydrocarbons by extractive distillation. HEINRICH KOPPERS G.m.b.H. 19 Feb., 1970 [19 Feb., 1969; 29 March, 1969], No. 8048/70. Heading C5E. Mixtures of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, e.g. in pyrolyses products, are separated by extractive distillation with morpholine and/or a substituted morpholine. Suitable morpholine derivatives are the N-formyl-2,6-dimethyl-, N- formyl-, N-oxyethyl-, N-hydroxyethyl-, N- acetyl-, N-phenyl-, N-hydroxypropyl-, dimenthyl-, N-hydroxyethyl-, and nitroso-, derivatives. A feed, containing paraffins, monolefins, diolefins, and possibly small amounts of more highly unsaturated hydrocarbons, is subjected to extractive distillation at super-, normal-, or sub-atmospheric pressure to provide a head product comprising paraffins or, depending upon the conditions, a mixture of paraffins and olefins and a bottoms product comprising the extractive solvent and, depending upon the conditions, olefins and more highly unsaturated compounds or diolefins and more highly unsaturated compounds. The head product can be further separated by normal or extractive distillation and the bottoms product can be separated by distillation into a head product comprising the unsaturated hydrocarbons and a bottoms comprising the extractive solvent which is recycled to the extractive distillation. A feed 1 consisting of a mixture of hydrocarbons is separated at 2 by extractive distillation to provide a head product 4 of paraffins containing little or no olefins and a bottoms stream 5. The stream 5 is separated in an extractive distillation column 6 to provide a head stream 8 of mono-olefins, which can be further separated in a distillation column 9, and a bottoms stream 12. The stream 12 is separated by distillation at 13 to provide a stream 17 containing the diolefins and any more highly unsaturated fractions and which can be further separated by distillation at 18 and a bottoms stream 14 containing the extraction solvent which is recycled after partial regeneration at 16 to the extractive distillation columns 2 and 6.
