Abstract

1,263,887. Selective printing. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. 8 Dec., 1970, No. 58205/70. Heading B6F. A thermal print head comprises heat-generating resistors 20, 22, 24 and an electrically conductive layer 52 between the resistors and the operative face 14 of the head. The head comprises a 5 x 5 matrix of groups of resistors 20, 22, 24, the resistors being supported on a glass substrate 16 having a superposed layer 18 of tantalum oxide. The resistors are formed of tantalum, connections to the resistors comprising tantalum strips 28, 30, 32, 34 with gold strips 28a, 30a, 32a, 34a superposed thereon, and further tantalum strips 46 upon the gold strips. A glass layer 50 separates the resistors and connectors from the conductive layer 52 which may be chromium. A further glass layer 56 protects the layer 52 from abrasion against a heat-sensitive record medium 11.
