Abstract
1,263,527. Tunnel furnaces. COMPAGNIE PECHINEY. 17 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 8378/69. Heading F4B. Apparatus for the firing or baking of carboncontaining products, usually in the form of a paste formed by coke or anthracite in granular form agglomerated by a binder such as pitch, comprises a tunnel furnace 10 having a preheating zone 1 and a zone 2 for the burning of volatile materials given off by the said binder, a closed chamber 30 providing an electrical heating zone 3 and a zone 4 containing cooling means 40. In operation, the tunnel furnace 10 receives fresh air at its outlet, which is immediately heated by the product and by burners 21, forming a homogenized zone at a temperature T 3 for the product before it enters chamber 30. A fan recycles the gases which leave the tunnel furnace at its inlet, the zone 1 forming a counter-current heat exchanger.
