Abstract
1,263,251. Extruded conductor covering. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 857/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division H1] A constricted tube insulated conductor is manufactured by enclosing the conductors 3 in an oversize insulating (e.g. thermoplastic) tube 2 and, while the wall of the tube is in a temporarily heat-softened state, directing jets of fluid at it to deform it locally to form constrictions 6. The jets (e.g. of hot air) emerge from nozzles 8 which may be designed to localize the jet or may be separated from the tube by a screen 9 having aperture(s) 10. Various arrangements of the apertures, screens and jet nozzles producing regularly or randomly spaced constrictions are described. Alternatively the tube may be divided into two or four compartments which may each contain a conductor.
