Abstract

1,263,160. Valves. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. 16 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 25205/69. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] A reciprocating piston compressor has a cylinder which receives gas from a suction chamber 14 through passages 24 in an annular suction valve 18, the cylinder being unloaded when a control piston 41 is moved to uncover port(s) 42 in a tube 38 forming a continuation of the central bore 26 of the valve 18, whereby the cylinder is connected directly to the suction chamber. A vent passage 45 in the piston 41 balances the pressure on opposite faces thereof, thereby to reduce the force required for its displacement by a fluid actuator 48. The actuator 48 comprises a piston 57 fixed by a spindle 58 to the control piston 41 and movable in a cylinder 49 by fluid supplied through either port 65 or port 66.
