Abstract
1,263,015. Electric furnaces. DMZ LENIN. 21 Sept., 1970 [19 Sept., 1969], No. 44947/70. Heading F4B. [Also in Division H5] A device for inhibiting the escape of gas from the interior of an electric furnace into the atmosphere at the point where an electrode enters the furnace includes an annular trough 1 open towards the electrode, a first conduit in communication with said trough, and a compressed air inlet for passing compressed air into the trough, via the conduit such that the air escapes through two restricted exits extending around the electrode, the exits leading from the space within the trough to the atmosphere outside the furnace and to the interior of the furnace. The conduit either enters the trough tangentially or radially. The base of the trough can become progressively nearer the electrode, proceeding around the trough.
