Abstract

1,261,275. Rotary sorting conveyers. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD and SORTING SYSTEMS Ltd. 16 Sept., 1970 [18 Sept., 1969], No. 46101/69. Heading B8A. Articles to be delivered to a desired one of a number of shoots a-e are fed by a conveyer 1 past a control console 2 to a circular carousel 3 comprising a plurality of radially extending segments 20 each pivotally mounted by pedestals 20a to a circular rail 10 driven and supported by respective rollers 11, 12. The pedestals each mount rollers 32, 33 for engagement with rails 34, 35, which have discharge sections 34a, 35a adjacent each shoot a-e. In operation an operator at the control console feeds the destination of an article into a memory (not shown) and a photo-electric device 60 measures the number of segments occupied by the article and feeds the information to the memory such that when an article reaches its desired shoot a-e the rollers 32, 33 are deflected to the tracks 34a, 35a to tilt those segments bearing the article and discharge the article to an inclined apron 22 and thence to the desired shoot.
