Abstract
1,260,988. Storage batteries. ACCUMULATORENFABRIK SONNENSCHEIN G.m.b.H. 7 Sept., 1970 [12 Sept., 1969], No. 42817/70. Heading H1B. To prevent oxidation of the dry-charged negative electrodes of a lead-acid accumulator during the shelf-life period before the acid is introduced they are provided with a coating consisting of a silicone, containing an anionactive emulsifying agent. The emulsifying agent enables the sulphuric acid to re-emulsify the silicone whereby the coating is quickly removed after introduction of the acid and the accumulator is immediately ready for use even at temperatures below 0 C. A preferred coating consists of a methyl-silicone resin containing an emulsifying agent of the fatty alcoholic polyglycol ether type. The dry-charged negative electrodes are coated by forming an aqueous emulsion of the coating material and dipping the electrodes in the emulsion.
