Abstract

1,260,946. Moulding reinforced foamed articles. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 April, 1970 [2 May, 1969], No. 22512/69. Heading B5A. Internally reinforced foamed thermoplastic articles are made by locating a charge of foamable thermoplastic material within a mould and supplying at least some of the heat necessary to cause foaming by means of one or more open ended hollow bodies passing through the mould, the body or bodies being retained within the finished article. The mould may be a thin shell itself moulded from a thermoplastic material and may also be retained upon the finished article. A pallet for a fork lift truck may be made in a suitably shaped mould the hollow bodies being rigid and being retained within the article to afford reception of the fork arms of the truck. The hollow bodies are preferably heated by the passage of a heated gas or liquid and where the former is used the bodies may, be perforated to allow the gas to permeate the foamable material.
