Abstract
1,260,641. Uses of luminescence. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. 5 Jan., 1970 [9 Jan., 1969], No. 377/70. Heading C4S. [Also in Divisions G2, H1 and H4] A latent image bearing tape 32 is fed past and in contact with a pair of rotatable discs 52, 54 between which is located a heater coil 56 for providing metal vapour to develop the image. The tape 32 may comprise photoconductive or photo-emmissive pigments with a nucleation inducing compound in a binder and decomposable compounds yielding nucleation centres upon electron, photon or ion bombardment may also be utilized; the latent image may be produced by electron, ion or photon bombardment, the metal vapour being preferably zinc or cadmium. The device is for use in apparatus which records T.V. signals and plays them back at a different line frequency for C.R.T. display or rebroadcasting. As shown, tape 32 is fed firstly past a slit 42 where it is exposed to an imaging electron beam from a gun 20; then into contact with discs 52, 54 for metal vapour development; and finally past a slit 82 for electron bombardment from a gun 74 to produce photons which are received by a photomultiplier 86 for feeding to a CRT (88, Fig. 1, not shown). The apparatus is evacuated by pumps at 39, 41, 43, 45. A felt wiper (98, Figs. 7, 8, not shown) may be positioned to clean plates 52, 54 during-their rotation.
