Abstract

1,260,299. Escalator hand rail. BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [22 April, 1968], No. 18940/68. Heading B8A. [Also in Division B5] An escalator hand rail 3 is formed of C-shaped cross-section and is slotted at regular intervals at 3 to assist bending of the rail at each end of the escalator. A central projection 4 is slotted by the same cutter, thereby forming driving teeth for the hand-rail. Reinforcing cord 2 may be of wire, glass fibre, or woven tape with short fibres or barbs on it. The hand-rail may be of polyethylene polypropylene, nylon, polyvinylchloride &c. It is formed by extrusion, and a 632 cutter for the slots moves at the speed of the extrudate. A rubber cover 5 with fabric edge strips 6 is bonded to the hand-rail.
