Abstract
1,259,300. Stainer compositions. CIBAGEIGY (U.K.) Ltd. 1 May, 1970 [2 May, 1969], No. 22404/69. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C4] A stainer composition for incorporation into a surface coating composition comprises (a) a non- aqueous liquid vehicle compatible with the coating composition and (b) a pigment selected from phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green or carbozole violet, each having a mean particle size of less than 0À18 Á and in which less than 33% by weight of the particles have a size of from 0À18 to 0À35 Á or dioxazine violet having a particle size of less than 0À15 Á and in which less than 33% by weight of the particles have a size of from 0À15 to 0À35 Á. The liquid vehicle may be a long or medium oil alkyd resin together with an aliphatic hydrocarbon, an aromatic hydrocarbon, a ketone, an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol or a carboxylic acid ester; or a non-ionic surfactant or a solution thereof in a polar solvent (see Division C4). The compositions may be prepared by ball milling or sand grinding the constituents. In the examples compositions are prepared from the above pigments and a long oil soya penta alkyd resin and white spirit. Other ingredients specified are cobalt and lead naphthenates as drier catalysts and methyl ethyl ketoxime as an anti-skinning agent.
