Abstract

In the drag line scraper of the parent Specification the first cable 10 which runs on to the drag winching drum 11 is provided with a slack cable sensing device. The cable 10 is brought in through a fair lead device having rollers 24-26 to a reaving pulley 27 axially movable on a spindle 28, Fig. 2, protected by bellows 30. From the pulley 27 the cable passes a slack sensing device 34 comprising a roller 35 urged into contact with the cable by an adjustable spring 36. If slack occurs the supporting arm 40 by an extension 46a operates a switch 37 which may stop the winch motor 14 or control its speed so that the slack is taken up. A stop face 46b prevents damage to the switch 37 by the extension 46a.
