Abstract

1,256,794. Cylinder lock mechanisms. WARTSELA AB. OY. 24 March, 1969 [25 March, 1968], No. 15274/69. Heading E2A. A cylinder lock mechanism comprises a housing 1, with a cylindrical opening having a groove in its wall, a hollow cylinder 2 turnable in the opening and containing a plurality of locking discs 4 turnable within the cylinder' by means of a key having a shank, an intermediate disc 16 arranged between the or each pair of adjacent locking discs, the or each intermediate disc having a central opening for the passage of the key shank and being non-rotatable with respect to the cylinder, a locking bar 3 engaged with said cylinder and movable from a cylinder-locking position in which it is also engaged in said groove into a cylinder-releasing position in which the locking bar is disengaged from said groove and is received in a channel formed by alignment of notches 8 in the peripheral edges of the locking discs with a notch 13 in the peripheral edge of the or each intermediate disc, characterised in that the cross-section of the key shank and its turning angle during operation of the lock are determined so as to leave a sector of the or each intermediate disc untraced by any part of the cross-section of the key shank, in that each part of the notch of the or each intermediate disc which has a sufficient radial extent to receive the locking bar in its cylinder-releasing position is situated wholly within said untraced sector, and in that said central opening has a smaller radial extent in said sector intermediate the radii defining the sector than in the other parts of said opening. As shown the opening of each intermediate disc has the form of a segment of a circle defined by an arc which extends through 270‹ and a chord joining the ends of the arc.
