Abstract

1,256,674. Digital transmission systems. YOKOGAWA ELECTRIC WORKS Ltd. 10 July, 1970, No. 33526/70. Heading H4P. A pair of transmission lines are balanced by impedances having the same characteristic impedance connected to opposite ends of the lines. A pulse transmission circuit causes currents of equal amplitudes to flow in the lines, feeding a receiving circuit having a differential amplifier. Line L1, L2 of impedance Zo are terminated in a resistor RZ = Zo and a balanced potential divider R1, R2, where R1/2R2=Zo connected across a supply Vc and a capacitor C. The arrangement ensures that there are no signal reflections at ends of the lines. A pulse generator Fig. 2A comprises a switching transistor Q1 operating oppositely from constant current transistors Q2, Q3, diodes B2, B3 providing temperature compensation. The receiver Fig. 2B (not shown) reverses the polarity of its output at zero signal input, and in the absence of a signal the bias voltage developed across R1 prevents the potentiasdifference between lines L1, L2 dropping to zero in the absence of a signal. Any number of pulse transmitters not operating simultaneously, and any number of receivers may be connected across the lines if the input impedances of the receiving circuit are made sufficiently high.
