[Also in Division C5] In a process for making shaped articles from hard coals by pressing at elevated temperature, substances which cause softening of the waxresin complex of the coals and/or cause binding between the molecules of the coals are added in amounts ranging from 3 to 15% by weight of the coal. Substances mentioned include polyfunctional alcohols and aldehydes, polyvalent aromatic oxy-compounds and quinones, aromatic and aliphatic amines, polyamides and polyenes, and dienes. Pressing temperatures ranging from 200‹ to 360‹ C. are mentioned.
