Abstract

1,256,016. Drying webs. BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 19 Sept., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 46337/69. Heading F4G. Textile or other material is dried by subjecting it in a vacuum in an enclosed zone to a temperature sufficient to vaporize solvent such as water, perchloroethylene or trichloroethylene in the material. The material is in continuous length form as shown in Fig. 1. The material T passes through an inlet seal formed by rollers 14, through the chamber 12, evacuated by pump 30, and heated by controlled heaters 24, and through an outlet seal 22. Cooling coils 26 condense the solvent which passes to chamber 32. Solvent and chemical such as dyestuff is applied at 18 as the material enters the chamber. The rollers may be outside the chamber, which has a separate inlet seal; (141, 161), Fig. 2 (not shown). The material may move over rollers within the chamber, some of which are heated, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may undergo scouring treatment in successive baths (B<SP>11</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, B) before drying takes place, Fig. 4 (not shown).
