Abstract

[Also in Division B6] A method of applying a metallic coating to a metallic body, e.g. the roller of a paper or pulp machine, comprises melting the outer surface layer of the coating and allowing it to cool so that it causes the coating to contract into intimate contact with the body, after which the melted layer is partially or entirely removed. In an example, steel plates 3 are secured about a cast-iron roller 1 by axial welds 4, and may also be joined by circumferential welds to form a continuous coating. The outer surface of the coating is melted by gas flame, electric arc, plasma torch or laser beam.
