Abstract

1,255,249. Herbicidal solutions containing siloxanes. DOW CORNING CORP. 1 Oct., 1969 [11 Oct., 1968; 21 April, 1969], No. 48159/69. Heading A5E. An improved herbicide solution comprises a known herbicide and 0.1-2% based on the volume of the herbicide solution, of (A) a siloxane of the formula: or an amine salt, quaternary ammonium salt, alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt; in which R is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation of 1-6 carbon atoms, R' is a divalent hydrocarbon radical (C 1-12 ), R" is a divalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation (C 2-4 ), R"' is a divalent or trivalent hydrocarbon radical (C 2-6 ), x has a value of 0-100, y has a value of 1-100, z has a value of 1-50, and w has a value of 1-2; or (B) a siloxane of the formula: in which R, R', x and y are as defined above, and b has a value of 8-16 inclusive. Numerous examples of the siloxanes (A) and (B) are specified. Herbicides specified are methanearsenic acid, dimethylarsenic acid, 1, 1'-dimethyl-4, 4'-bipyridinium, 2, 2-dichloropropionic acid, 4, 6-dinitro-o-sec-butyl phenol, N' (3, 4-dichlorophenyl) N, N-dimethyl urea, 2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid, 2-chloro-N-propylacetanilide, 3-amino-2, 5-dichloro-benzoic acid, 2, 6-dinitro-N, N-dipropyl-4-trifluoromethylaniline, 3-amino-1, 2, 4-triazine and 2-chloro-4- ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-1, 3, 5-triazine. The herbicides are principally employed to destroy weeds which hinder the growth of crops such as corn, sorghum, soybeans, wheat and sugar beet. The herbicide is preferably dissolved in a suitable liquid and this solution together with the added siloxane may be diluted in a suitable carrier.
