Abstract

1,253,940. Radiators for I.C. engine cooling systems. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 30 Oct., 1970 [11 Nov., 1969], No. 51783/70. Heading F4S. An I.C. engine cooling system includes a radiator 4 having a lower header 5 with a coolant return via a pump 6 to the engine 1, and an upper header 3 which is divided by a partition 7 into a lower chamber 9 into which the coolant inlet 2 is connected, and an upper chamber 8 having venting means e.g. in the filler cap 14. The chamber 8 communicates with the suction side of the pump 6 by a by-pass (comprising coolant tubes 11 of the radiator, or alternatively a constructionally separate tube) the free crosssectional area of which is smaller than that of an opening 10 interconnecting the chambers 8, 9 of the header. Guide means 16 may be incorporated to divert part of-the coolant inlet flow through pipe 2 to the opening 10.
