Abstract
1,253,562. Vehicle washing apparatus. CECCATO & C. S.p.A. 1 April, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 17111/69. Addition to 1,088,069. Heading B7J. Vehicle washing apparatus comprises a spraying member 1 in the form of an oscillating bridge provided with counterweights 1<SP>1</SP> and pivoted at fulcrum pins 2 and 3 respectively to two carriages 4 and 5, which carriage 4 has mounted thereon a guide rail 13 within which a trolley 15 runs on rollers 14, and from the lower part of the trolley 15 depends a stirrup 16 at the lower terminal part of which a device 18 is mounted operable to drivingly connect the trolley 15 to a toothed belt 19, 19<SP>1</SP> engaging with toothed wheels 20 attached to the axles of wheels 11 on which carriage 4 is movable. The fulcrum pin 2 is extended internally in the carriage 4 to form a shaft 21 on which is mounted an elongated attachment 23 with a longitudinal channel 24 directed towards the stirrup 16 along which channel 24 are drilled holes (25, 25<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>11</SP>) intended to be selectively engaged with a pin 26 passing through a slot 17 in stirrup 16, the pin 26 being movable between holes (25, 25<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>11</SP>) but not from channel 24. Also on shaft 21 is mounted a sprocket wheel 30 engageable through a chain 31 to a motor/ reduction gear set mounted on a bracket integral with the carriage 4. The device 18 comprises a block 35 within which is mounted a piston 37 and on the upper face of the block 35 is pivoted a contact arm 41 having a toothed rack 42 intended to engage with teeth 42<SP>1</SP> on inside face of the belt 19, 19<SP>1</SP>, the piston 37 being forced upwards by compressed air to bring rod 37<SP>1</SP> into contact with arm 41 and the piston 37 being forced downwards by action of a compression spring 44. In operation oscillation of spraying member 1 through the action of motor/reduction gear set 33 causes an oscillation of attachment 23 and consequently movement of trolley 15. Movement of trolley 15 when connected with belt 19, 19<SP>1</SP> through device 18 will cause a corresponding displacement of belt 19, 19<SP>1</SP> and movement of the carriage 4 in the direction opposite to that of the trolley 15.
