1,252,382. Substituted 5-pyrimidinyl methyl imidazole salts. MERCK & CO. Inc. 11 March, 1970 [12 March, 1969], No. 11725/70. Heading C2C. Novel substituted 5-pyrimidinyl methyl imidazolium salts of the general formula where R, K<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are each the same or different C 1 -C 5 alkyl radicals, X is an anion and b and c are positive whole numbers dependent on the valency of X may be prepared by reacting a 1,2-di(C 1 -C 5 alkyl) imidazole with an acid addition salt of a 2-(C 1 -C 5 alkyl)-4- amino-5-hydroxymethyl pyrimidine ester of a strong acid. Pharmaceutical compositions of compounds I with a carrier or diluent show coccidiostatic activity when administered orally to poultry.
