Abstract

1,251,701. Supplying photoflash lamps. NIPPON KOGAKU K.K. 7 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 6761/69. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G3] A circuit for supplying a photoflash discharge lamp includes a glow lamp which determines the maximum and minimum voltages to which a capacitor is charged. The charge on the capacitor is thus kept substantially constant to provide uniform output when the lamp is operated. As shown in Fig. 1, a capacitor 4 is charged from a D.C. source 1 through a converter 3. When the capacitor reaches a certain voltage, a glow lamp 8 breaks down allowing current to flow through a transistor 9 to a circuit 12 which inhibits the converter 3 so that charging of the capacitor stops. The gating of the transistor also reduces the voltage across the glow lamp 8, but this remains conductive until the capacitor has discharged slightly. When the glow lamp blocks, the transistor is also cut off so that Charging starts again until the glow lamp restrikes. The maximum and minimum voltages can be adjusted using potentiometers 6, 7. The lamp 14 is flashed by a trigger circuit 13 when a synchronizing switch 15 is closed.
