Abstract

1,251,390. Soil compacting machines. FLEXIBLE DRIVES (GILMANS) Ltd. 24 Dec., 1969 [24 Dec., 1968], No. 61283/68. Heading B7H. A vibrated road roller 22 for compacting soil is driven through rubber connections 29 secured to an end wall 20 of the roller from a disc 28 to which is attached a ring gear 27 which is rotated by a pinion 26 driven by an hydraulic motor 25. The latter is driven by fluid from a pump coupled to an internal combustion engine mounted on the frame of the machine. The hydraulic motor 25 and ring gear are both mounted on the frame of the machine. An out-of-balance shaft 18 having a pulley 17 for a belt drive from the internal combustion engine through a clutch is mounted in bearings 19 in the walls 20, 21 of the roller, the end of the end wall 21 of the roller being supported by a bearing 31 mounted in the frame of the machine by spaced rubber connections 32. Consequently, the vibration imposed on the roller 22 by the shaft 18 is absorbed by the rubber connections 29, 32 to reduce the effect being transmitted to the frame of the machine. Tanks 23, 24 are provided on the frame, are for supplying hydraulic fluid and the other for water for spraying on the roller 22.
