1,250,950. Mowing apparatus. ORAG INTER Ltd. 11 Nov., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 55202/69. Heading A1F. Mowing apparatus for mowing under and along each side of a fence or guard rail 13 having spaced posts 13a comprises an inverted U-shaped yoke 12 which in operative position straddles the fence 13 and which carries on each leg 12a, 12b a rotary mower head 30 or 31 provided with a guard, each mower head 30 or 31 being carried on a cranked arm 32 or 33 pivoted to the respective yoke leg 12a or 12b and being urged towards the other head and towards the fence 13 by' spring means and limited by stops, 47 so that overlapping parallel swaths are moved, the guards moving the heads 30 and 31 apart when a fence post is encountered. In use, the yoke 12 is supported by ground wheels 60 and 61 but when the apparatus is removed from the fence 13, the heads 30 and 31 are forced apart by hydraulic cylinders 50 and 51, the yoke 12 is raised by an hydraulic ram 24 connected between a rollered guide sleeve 19 and the leg 12b, and is pivoted about a shaft 20 by means of an hydraulic ram 21 to lie above the tractor 10 (Fig. 2) on a support 15a. Each mower head 30 or 31 comprises a cutter blade assembly rotated by an hydraulic motor and the guard covers the top and sides of the cutter blade assembly. The heads 30 and 31 are urged together by tension or torsion springs, and further stops 52 limit their movement apart.
