Abstract
1,250,621. Door closer device with back check. DOR-O-MATIC (G.B.) Ltd. 25 Oct.; 1968 [3 Nov., 1967; 1 Feb., 1968], Nos. 50057/67 and 5203/68. Heading E2M. [Also in Division F2] A door closer device of the usual type as shown, wherein main pistons 34 and 36 operate in parallel cylindrical bores 38 and 40 against the action or springs 42 and 44 and are connected to a pair of plates 20 and 22 slidable in a cavity 26 in the housing 10, which plates carry between them roller followers 16, 17, 18 bearing on a cam 14 secured to a shaft acting on the door, is provided' with at least one auxiliary piston and cylinder device which provides an increasing resistance to the opening of the door. Preferably there are two auxiliary pistons 74 and 76 operating in cylinders 70 and 72 against the action of springs 78, the piston heads abutting the adjacent end of the pair of slidable plates 20 and 22. A tapered flat 80 is formed on the surface of each piston 74 and 76, such that the flat is deepest at the end of the piston further from the plates 20, 22 and runs out part way along the piston. As the door is opened in either direction the cam 14 rotates to move the slidable plates 20 and 22 which thrust the pistons 74 and 76 into their cylinders, progressively reducing in cross-section the passages formed by the flats 80 until the passages are completely closed. This action produces an increasing resistance to motion until the door is prevented from opening further. Details of construction and manufacture are given; the door closer is suitable for being sunk in the floor or door frame. The cam 14 may have recesses 46, 48 to engage rollers 16 or 18 to hold the door open.
