Abstract

Paper glazing apparatus comprises a glazing cylinder 1 and back-up roller 2 together with at least one lug 6 disposed in their nip, the lug having a curved surface whose contour follows that of the cylinder 1 and another surface arranged to be contiguous with the coated surface 3a of a paper strip 3 fed into the nip. The lug(s) inhibit leaks of coating composition at the edges of the paper. Preferably two lugs are provided one for each edge, and are laterally adjustable. An air stream may be supplied from grooves in the lugs to act on the cylinder and surface 3a (Fig. 2, not shown).
