Abstract

1,250,466. Steering indicators. SPERRY RAND Ltd. 29 Oct., 1969 [30 Oct., 1968], No. 51337/68. Heading B7V. [Also in Divisions G1 and G3] A ships heading indicator comprises means for indicating the instantaneous heading of the ship and means for indicating the rate of change of heading. The instantaneous heading is indicated by fixed pointer 14 and scale 11 moving in response to the output of a gyrocompass, marker 15 indicating the desired ships heading. The rate of change of heading is indicated by pointer 27 moving in response to the differentiated output of the gyrocompass. A further pointer 23 indicates the rudder angle. The required heading, the actual heading and the rate of change of heading may be summed and the resultant signal applied to an auto-pilot controlling the steering motor (Fig. 3, not shown).
