Abstract
124,990. Wade, H., (Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory). July 11, 1918. Recovering waste lubricants.-Waste lubricants, especially those from internal-combustion engines, are dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent, treated with acid and washed, the solvent being then distilled off. The process may also include other steps, as follows : the oil is clarified by settling or centrifuging, dissolved in about four times its weight of gasoline or petroleum naphtha, shaken with bone-black or fuller's earth, filtered, treated with a two per cent solution of caustic soda, separated from the soda solution, treated with concentrated sulphuric acid, separated from the acid, neutralized with caustic soda and washed, the solvent being then distilled off.
