Abstract
1,249,478. Treating hair. L'OREAL. 25 Oct., 1968 [26 Oct., 1967], No. 2911/71. Divided out of 1,249,477. Heading D1P. Human hair is treated with a "self neutralising" composition for permanent waving, which comprises at least one thiol or disulphide and at least one polycondensate compound containing at least one group of the formula: in which X represents O or S, each of R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, represents an alkyl of 1-6 C atoms or R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic radical, and each of the R 3 radicals, which may be the same or different, represents an H atom or an alkyl radical, or two R 3 groups together form a divalent radical; or a salt thereof containing at least one group of the formula: in which X, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are as above. R 5 is an alkyl group or other salt forming group e.g. when R 1 and R 2 together form a heterocyclic radical, R, represents, in effect, a double bond forming part of the heterocyclic ring and A represents a halide ion. The groups are attached to a radical containing a disulphide or thiol group respectively. Examples of the polycondensable compound are N-carbamyl-N'-morpholinomethyl carbamyl cysteamine, N-N'-di (morpholinomethylcarbamyl) cysteamine, N-morpholinemethylcarbamyl) cysteamine, N-morpholinemethylcarbamyl cysteamine and N-N' dimethyl, -N-#-ureidoethyl-N' N'-dimethyl-N'-# - (morpholinomethylureylen) ethyl cysteamine dichloride. The cosmetic compositions are in the form of aqueous, or aqueous-alcoholic solutions, creams, gels or aerosols containing 0.5-12% by weight of at least one of the polycondensable compounds. The composition may also comprise a urea or urein, which are optionally substituted by a disulphide, thiol, carboxylic acid, tertiary or quaternary ammonium group or by a fatty chain e.g. an alkyl or alkenyl radical of 12-30 C atoms. Also the composition may contain surface active agents, penetrating agents and perfumes. A two-component pack is provided comprising as component (A), at least one of the polycondensable compounds containing a disulphide or thiol group and as component (B) a thiol or disulphide respectively. An acid catalyst, which is either an inorganic or organic acid or an acid salt e.g. acetic, lactic or phosphoric acid may be present in component (B) to catalyse the polycondensation in the keratinic fibre on heating.
