Abstract
1,249,232. Aqueous writing inks. GILLETTE CO. 12 March, 1969 [14 March, 1968; 30 Jan., 1969], No. 13144/69. Heading C4A. An aqueous writing ink for a porous nib pen comprises a water-soluble alkylamide RCONH 2 , in which R is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, and a minor amount of colorant, and has a viscosity of less than 500 centipoises at 25‹ C.; the alkylamide should not hydrolyse in water, and is present in an amount sufficient to prevent drying of the ink on the nib if exposed to ambient atmosphere for 24 hours. The alkylamide constitutes all or part of an organic vehicle which may include a high-boiling water-miscible solvent which preferably dissolves the amide. Specified amides are acetamide, propionamide and n-butyramide. The high-boiling solvent may be glycerin, ethylene glycol, specified higher glycols and polyglycols or ethers thereof, pyrrolidone or methyl or propyl pyrrolidone, or dimethyl sulphoxide. The colorant may be a sodium salt of a sulphonated triarylmethane or azo dye, or a carboxylate of a basic dye (a number being listed). Optionally benzotriazole is included as corrosion-inhibitor. In general, proportions (by wt.) are as follows:- 1-10% colorant, 30-70% organic vehicle (constituted by 70-30% alkylamide + 30- 70% high boiling solvent), and 30-70% water, based on the total composition.
