Abstract
1,249,023. Ethylene-branched olefin-polyene polymers. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 1 April, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 17077/69. Heading C3P. Unsaturated, high molecular weight vulcanizable polymers, amorphous in the relaxed state but crystallizable by stretching, comprise ethylene, a C 5+ branched alpha olefin, and a hydrocarbon monomer containing at least two non-conjugated double bonds in the molar proportions respectively of 70 to 90%, 1 to 29% and 0-05 to 3%. Optionally up to 28% of propylene units may also be included. The polymers may be obtained by polymerization using a vanadium compound and an organoaluminium compound. The products may be cross-linked and formed into articles such as films and fibres. In examples, ethylene-4-methyl-pentene-1-5- ethylidene - norbornene - 2,4 - vinyl cyclohexene, methyl tetrahydroindene, or 5,7-dimethyl-octadiene-1,6-terpolymers or quaterpolymers with propylene also, are obtained by polymerization in the presence of aluminium diethyl chloridevanadium trisacetylacetonate or vanadium oxytrichloride catalysts.
