Abstract
1,248,289. Cassettes; adapters. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 18 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968; 3 April, 1968], No. 14017/69. Heading G5R. An adapter 21, enabling a cassette to be used with a cartridge player 11 for which it was not designed, includes an insertion opening for the cassette, a tape transport and a head 44 and pinch roller 43 mounted on a plate 42 movable towards the opening by engagement of knobs 47, 48 with a wall of the opening as the adapter is loaded to the player. The tape is thereby pressed against a capstan 34 arranged to be belt-driven from a roller 39 itself driven by the player capstan 17 when a switch 18 is operated by the adapter to energize the motor, and the spool spindles are driven by belts 33, 35 from the capstan 34. Electrical connection to the head 44 is made by contacts 20, by capacitive coupling, or by electromagnetic coupling with the player head 15, in which case the contacts 14 normally used for auto-stopping provide the power supply to the coupling device. The adapter may alternatively contain a motor connected to the contacts 50 and may have a lug on its front face to operate a switch in the player energizing only the audio amplifier.
