Abstract

1,247,250. Building pneumatic tyres. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. 27 March, 1969 [30 March, 1968], No. 16198/69. Heading B7C. A pneumatic belt tyre blank is manufactured by the flat band method, the bead cores being applied to the carcase fabric only after the carcase fabric has been shaped and expanded to substantially the diameter of the finished tyre. The manufacture is carried out on a tyre building drum having a cylindrical inflatable body 4, annular bead core applicators 9 with rebates 10 for accommodating the bead cores, and axially displaceable hollow cylinders 12, each having a stop 14. The stops 14 serve to position the free edges 15<SP>1</SP> of the carcase prior to the edges being turned around the beads by inflatable bags 8. The end edges of the inflatable body are clamped to axially movable discs 2 by rings 3. The free edges 15<SP>1</SP> may be clamped to the cylinders 12 by the bags 8.
