Abstract
1,246,646. Transparency mount. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO. Sept. 17, 1968 [Sept. 18, 1967; June 4, 1968], No. 44198/68. Headings G2C and G2J. A transparency mount made from lightweight polymeric material such as thermoplastic polystyrene comprises a moulded frame 5 having a rectangular rib 9, a rectangular wall portion 11 forming a recess with a central opening (13) Fig.2 (not shown) and a border 7 around rib 9 terminating in an edge wall 8; and a planar rectangular cap 6 which retains a transparency 20. Adjacent the rib 9 are pads 21 and 22 which provide a space between the cap 6 and the wall portion 11 for the transparency 20. The cap which is planar, having a central rectangular opening 23 Fig. 2 (not shown) of same dimensions as opening 13 in wall portion 11, may be stamped or die cut, is secured along the pads 21, 22 by solvent or sonic welds and may have information printed thereon. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view along line 2/2 of Fig. 1 and shows the frame 5 being flexed so that an unsealed edge of the cap 6 is released from the frame and the transparency 20 may be easily inserted or removed. The process of insertion may also be mechanized. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 5, 6 (not shown) the border comprises a web (7<SP>1</SP>) and a flange (8<SP>1</SP>).
