Abstract
1,246,480. Xerographic plate. RANK XEROX Ltd. 20 Sept., 1968 [21 Sept., 1967], No. 44821/68. Heading H1K. A xerographic plate comprises a photoconductive insulating layer comprising either amorphous selenium or the X-form of metal-free phthalocyanine overlying a conductive layer comprising a conductive pigment dispersed in an organic binder, the conductive layer either overlying a substrate or comprising the pigment dispersed in a flexible rubber material. The substrate may be an endless flexible belt of brass, Al, steel or aluminized polyester film. Alternatively the support may be of insulating material, e.g. a plastics film, glass cloth, paper, rubber, cotton, flax or silk. The selenium layer may be evaporated on to the conductive layer and be alloyed with As, Bi, Sb, Te or a halogen. The phthalocyanine is preferably dispersed in an epoxy-phenolic resin. Conductive pigments are exemplified by particulate Ag, Cu, Al, Fe, SnO 2 , hexagonal Se and carbon black whilst many insulating binders therefor are listed. Those binders exemplified are shellac, polymethacrylate, epoxy resin, epoxy-phenolic resin, acrylic resin, copolyvinyl toluene-butadiene and copolyvinylacetate-chloride. In the embodiments where the pigment is dispersed in a flexible rubber material, carbon is dispersed in polyvinylidene fluoride, polycarbonate or biaxially oriented polypropylene.
