Abstract

1,244,888. Apparatus for biaxially stretching films. KADEE N.V. 24 Dec., 1968 [30 Dec., 1967], No. 54433/70. Divided out of 1,244,887. Heading B5B. Apparatus for biaxially stretching a web of preformed thermoplastic film which is continuously fed through a zone in which it is heated to a temperature within the range it has a plastic consistency in a feed plane extending between mutually spaced pairs of nip rollers comprising a co-operating pair of feed rollers and a co-operating pair of draw rollers driven at a higher peripheral speed than that of the feed rollers to stretch the web longitudinally. The apparatus also comprises two endless belts located between the pairs of nip rollers for respectively engaging opposite edge portions of the web, the belts diverging in the general direction of travel of the web for stretching the web transversely, each belt comprising a plurality of plates interconnected by means (such as helical springs) permitting relative displacement between the plates in the longitudinal direction of the belts. An embodiment of the apparatus of the invention is particularly described in the parent Specification 1,244,887 with reference to drawings accompanying that Specification.
