Fluid dispensing nozzles comprise a housing 21, valve means 22 within the housing including urging means 24 normally closing the valve, a fluid discharge conduit 32, automatic shut off means 33 for shutting off flow through the valve when the end 45 of the conduit is submerged including a telescoping plunger 34 which moves to an extended position upon actuation of the shut off means, a lever 27 for opening the valve and having one end 54 pivoted on the plunger, a lever guard 28 on the housing, and latch means 57 for latching the lever with the valve in open position, which latch means lie within the lever guard and comprise a first member 60 with locking step means 65, 66, 67 pivotally mounted 61 on the lever guard and a second member 63 pivotally mounted 64 on the lever and having a bearing surface 70 adapted to be supported on the step means when the plunger is in a retracted position prior to automatic shut off. in an over-centre condition which holds the lever in "open" position, and so that on actuation of the shut off means the movement of the pivoted end of the lever changes the over-centre condition releasing the bearing surface from the step means to ensure positive unlatching of the latch means. The first member may be a rack with a plurality of steps and the second member a trigger controlled by the index finger of the operator. The rack may be mounted on a resilient support 62 which may be adjusted relative to the lever guard by screw means.
