Feb.10, 1969 [Feb.9, 1968; June 26, 1968(2); July 24, 1968; Oct.11, 1968], No.7037/69. Headings F1M, F1N and F1S. A gaseous pressure engine or pump includes a cylinder 31 in which moves a piston 32 having a hollow accommodating a mandrel 34 which is mounted in the bottom of the cylinder and has a hollow interior through which is effected feeding or delivery of the working or compressible medium, most advantageously compressed air. The mandrel has slidably mounted thereon a timing sleeve valve which has a step or steps 36 adapted directly or indirectly to co-operate with a step or steps 28 on the piston to cause displacement of the timing sleeve valve dependent on positional change of the piston into positions from which it is displaced by the pressure of the working or compressible medium and/or elastic elements into its dead centre positions for the proper control of the working or compressible medium flow. In the Fig., compressed air is fed into the hollow 25 of the mandrel 34. The engine of Fig. 1 is double acting but a single acting engine is described with reference to Fig.2 (not shown).
