A surface dredger for the recovery of oil and other floating pollution comprises a vessel having a hold 5 open to the sea at the bottom and a forepart 3 which has a front face 6 set across the fore and aft line and sloping down and aft to meet the bottom 7. The face 6 extends above the water line and serves to force surface pollution under the vessel's bottom and under the open hold, permitting pollution to rise to the surface within the hold.
