Divided out of 1,243,401. Heading C2C. A process for the preparation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro tetraoxonaphthalene dihydrate comprises oxidation of 2,3-hydroxynaphthoquinone with chlorine in acetic acid followed by precipitation of the above product by the addition of a water immiscible organic solvent such as methylene chloride, chloroform or dichloroethane and optional cooling to- 8‹ C.
